There’s one sad household out Barryrennie way that’s missing a beloved friend.
Wally the Wallaroo is the adopted pet of Belinda and Steve, who went walkabout on the weekend.
The cheeky escape artist has been sighted a few times in the Barryrennie/Grenfell Rd area, but it seems people just don’t know what to do with a pet wallaroo.
The answer is simple, Belinda explained.
“All they need to do is open a large bag and Wally will climb straight in,” she said.
“He’s been spotted a few times on the side of the road, but people weren’t too sure what to do with him.”
Belinda explained the Wallaroo is not afraid of cars, dogs or people and is very tame – in fact too tame to go back to being a wild Wallaroo.
Inexperienced at caring for an orphaned joey, she readily admitted, “I spoilt him with too much kindness, and that’s why he can’t be released”.
“We’ve had him for nearly three years from a tiny little joey, and at times, it was life and death.
‘Since then, he’s become so much a part of our family. He lays on the lounge with me and watches
television at night.
“He often follows the motorbike and car around the farm.”
That’s just how the wallaroo appears to have wandered off - Belinda remembers him following the car out of their Barryrennie Rd property.
Every other time he has wandered back to the homestead, but this time he didn’t.
Belinda appealed to people to contact her straight away if they spot Wally, or approach him with a large bag.
She is offering a reward to anyone who assists in bringing Wally actually home.
